How WINGS Will Work
WINGS is a two-phase program that will provide housing, training and wrap-around services for four young men, aged 18 to 23, who were formerly in foster care.
In Phase 1, the young men will live at The Farm, a three bedroom, two bath manufactured home on three acres. The four young men will live on site, with live-in supervision and additional, qualified staff. This first phase will be nine to 12 months in duration, and includes a stepped progression toward graduation to Phase 2. During this first phase, the young men will learn a strong work ethic, responsibility and self-respect. They will work hard every day at a job and, upon completion of this phase, offer prospective employers a clean, sober, hard-working, and confident employee.
Phase 2 will move the young men into their own house or apartment, where they will continue with the program and be supervised by a Life Coach. By the time they move to Phase 2, they will have been matched up with a Mentoring Employer. When the young man, staff and employer agree, the Crew member will graduate from the program and move out. We expect that they will stay in Phase 2 for a minimum of nine months. When they graduate, they will have enough money – between $3,800 and $4,500 – to put down money on their own apartment and get started on their new life.
We plan to open the doors at The Farm with four young men in September of 2008. |
