What is WINGS?

Give Them Wings, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation doing business as WINGS. WINGS is a two-phase program that provides housing, work, education and wrap-around services for young men who are currently homeless and in need of support. We provides these services to young men between the ages of 18 and 23, who are from, or have ties to, the Columbia Gorge area.

We are very proud that WINGS turned one year old as of December 1, 2009. Currently, we can accommodate four young men on our farm in Hood River. We plan to expand into other locations when funding allows.

The program is completely voluntary and free – the only requirement is desire to make a change. During Phase 1, the WING-men learn to be employable and sustainable by working off-site five days a week, going to school at night, doing community service projects, and learning life skills at home on the farm.

As this is a self-paced program, we expect that Phase 1 will last between nine and 12 months. Phase 2 will provide the WING-men a place of their own, employment and education – depending on each young man's needs and desires. We have just had our first graduate to Phase 2, but we expect that this phase will also last between nine and 12 months. At the time of graduation from the program, we anticipate that the young men will be ready to live and work independently – but they will always be WING-men and a part of the WINGS family.
